48. Markha Valley Highlands

This photo was taken at an altitude of about 4,500 meters between Tahungste and Nimaling. Nimaling is the base camp for a couple of peaks (the next day we passed over the "Gongmaru La" pass). It had been raining the night before and our guide Urgen and poney-man Karma were wet because they had put up their tent on a swampy ground (we told them to be careful but Ladakhi people aren't used to seeing a lot of rainfall so they didn't care about it). We reached the place the photo was taken after a steep two-hour ascent. Mani-walls are often built around a small village, but here we just saw one or two houses. We enjoyed a while the fabulous surroundings, circled the wall clockwise and went on the trek.
