Shot taken at 18,000 feet with Nangpa La (pass) in background. The Nangpa La is one of the rare practicable trade route between Tibet and Nepal. This is also one of the most traveled routes used by Tibetan people who flee their country and meet with the Dalai LAma in India. Every day for the first two weeks of our stay a constant flow of yaks lumbered along the path to the Cho Oyu base camp. Each was laden with 120 pounds of climbing gear, food, and supplies to sustain the climbers during their five-week stay on the mountain.
