20. Stanzin |

 This image of Stanzin and her mother was taken in the village of PAdham int he Zanskar valley during the winter of 2001. I had spent a week in the village photographing families and mothers with their babies. (In Zanskar the women try to arrange the births of their children for the winter months so that all hands are free during the summer harvest.) The baby in the background of the shot is being held by Stanzin's mother. When the picture was taken the baby had not yet been given a name by the local monk. Martin Hartley |
