14. Sangat Ram, Great Himilaya National Park, Himachal Pradesh, India

Sangat Ram is a resident of Village Tinder, just outside of the Great Himalayan National Park. He is a farmer, grazier, and collector of medicinal herbs. Occasionally he leads treks into the park. The wild primroses that Sangat Ram stuck in his Himachli cap were just some of the many species of flowers that were in full bloom and carpeted thr high altitude pastures we walked through. Sangat Ram is an expert on the region's natural and cultural history. He knows the habits of many of the animals that reside in the park, he enjoys recounting the local oral history of the region, and he lead the pujas that we did during our trek.
